Where’s Rodney King when you need him?

I remember when Hank Williams, Jr. was excoriated for “comparing Barack Obama to Hitler. OMG! ESPN immediately threw him off of Monday Night Football, which had been, in fact, one of the reasons I tuned in to that program. Loved that song. So what did he say?

This. He called President Obama’s golf game with House Speaker John Boehner “one of the biggest political mistakes ever. It’s like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu.” Bingo bango bongo, HWJr is instantly persona non grata all over the media. Being a right-leaning middle roader independent, I thought that was a bit of an overreach, but I understood what was happening. Didn’t particularly like or agree with it, but understood it because of the political climate and the media’s consecration of Mr. Obama.

What I don’t understand is people in the media experiencing no repercussions for statements like: “if you’re on Trump’s side, you’re on the Klan side,” calling his constituents white supremacists and racists, comparing him openly to Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and other terrorists and tyrants. Are they being muzzled, thrown off the air, or at least censured in some way? Uh, no.

Now the vapid and vindictive Nancy Pelosi has led an impeachment in the House, basically accusing Trump of being a terrorist, claiming he incited the riot on the Capitol with his speech. Which, of course, he didn’t. Read the speech; I did. Also consider the fact that at least six separate times Capitol security asked for reinforcements, including the national guard, because they, the FBI, and others had been warned there was going to be a violent demonstration at the Capitol. Of course those requests were ignored, in spite of the intel.

I’m sorry to say I believe at least some of those in charge ignored the requests for reinforcements because they wanted a riot, and the more violent the better, because they could lay it all at Trump’s feet and claim he caused it. How sinister, how low, and how pathetic that is, if true.

Having watched current events with interest and curiosity most of my life, it’s plain to me that the Democrats and the media — particularly the left-leaning ones — simply passionately hate Trump, and have done whatever they could do denigrate, denounce, and disgrace him for the past four years. I’ve never been a Trump fan, have always thought him something of a pompous, narcissistic boob, and was astonished when he got the nomination and was elected. Of course he was lucky to be running against Hilary, who was having her own troubles.

So now we’re pretty much like the Hatfields and McCoys — the democrats hating the republicans, the republicans hating the democrats, and both sides are losing the battle.

Recalls the words of that great ghetto guru, Rodney King, who was apprehended after driving drunk and attempting to evade the police, and was beaten unmercifully when he was finally caught. He looked up at the police who were pounding on him and asked “Why can’t we just all get along?” Incidentally, you might not remember that Rodney was an author and activist who later wrote his memoir titled “The Riot Within,” which was categorized by Amazon for some inexplicable reason as a Criminal Biography. That, of course, was in 2012, evidently before Amazon had fully defined and integrated their moral and social philosophy.
